China announced that it will raise the tariff rate on American products from the existing 84% to 125%. This measure will take effect from the 12th.

On the 11th, the Tariff Rules Committee of the State Council of China announced the increase in tariffs through an official notice and explained that it was a decision made in response to the United States' unilateral high tariffs. The committee criticized, "The excessive tariffs that the United States imposed on China are a clear violation of international trade norms," and said, "This is a coercive measure that goes against economic common sense." It further emphasized, "Even if the United States imposes additional tariffs, China will not be concerned."

After the inauguration of Donald Trump's second administration, the United States adjusted the tariff rate on China to 145%. This figure includes the recent 125% reciprocal tariff announced, in addition to the 20% tariff imposed due to insufficient management of fentanyl by China.

China began to apply the countermeasure tariff of 84% level from the previous day and further increased it within a day. This measure is seen as a signal that comprehensive trade tension with the United States is escalating again, beyond simple tariff response.

Non-tariff measures are also being implemented. In addition to issuing a recommendation to refrain from traveling and studying in the United States, China is also raising the level of response in the culture and education sectors, such as reducing imports of American films.
