Nvidia announced a large-scale plan to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States amounting to 500 billion dollars (approximately 700 trillion won) over the next four years. This project focuses on the direct production of advanced hardware ranging from AI chips to supercomputers within the US, and aims to respond to growing AI demand and initiate the reorganization of the global supply chain.

Nvidia disclosed this information through its blog on the 14th (local time), announcing that it has secured manufacturing space of over 1 million square feet (approximately 93,000㎡). This plan includes participation from partners such as Taiwan's TSMC and SPIL (Siliconware Precision Industries), Amkor Technology with factories in the US, and Foxconn, Wistron.

TSMC's factory located in Phoenix, Arizona has already begun production of the latest AI chip 'Blackwell', and Nvidia plans to manufacture AI supercomputers in the US based on this. Particularly in Houston and Dallas, Texas, supercomputer manufacturing plants cooperating with Foxconn and Wistron are under construction, with mass production expected to commence in 12 to 15 months. Packaging and testing will be handled by Amkor and SPIL.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, emphasized, “The engine of the world's AI infrastructure has now started operating within the US,” and added, “By enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities, we effectively meet the rapidly increasing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, stabilize the supply chain, and increase resilience.”

This announcement aligns with the tariff strengthening policy promoted during President Trump's tenure. President Trump has repeatedly announced high tariffs to reduce trade deficits and revive manufacturing within the US, and stated on the 11th that some major technical products, including semiconductors, would be excluded from tariff exemptions. Following Nvidia's announcement, the White House welcomed it as the 'Trump effect', and President Trump commented that “The reason they did this is due to the beautiful word 'Tariff', which is second only to love and God.”

Most partners participating in this large-scale investment are Taiwanese companies, and Amkor Technology is a US corporation with Korean background. Amkor was established in the US by Chairman Kim Joo-jin, son of Kim Hyang-soo, the founder of Anam Group, and has now grown to become the world's second-largest semiconductor packaging specialist company, also collaborating with Samsung Electronics.

Nvidia's announcement is perceived as a symbolic event intertwining corporate strategic choices and the US government’s policy stance beyond mere corporate factory expansion. This also raises the possibility of a shift in the global semiconductor supply chain's axis from Asia to North America.
