China, Withdrawal of 125% additional tariffs imposed on American-made semiconductors
Donald Trump, President of the United States, recently hinted at a willingness to ease trade conflicts with China, and it has been reported that China also has withdrawn high tariffs on some American products. According to Yonhap News, quoting CNN and Chinese local media, the Chinese government recently withdrew the additional 125% tariffs previously imposed on eight American semiconductor products excluding memory chips.
This action is interpreted as a response to President Trump's mention of the possibility of negotiations with China and indication of tariff reductions aimed at easing tensions between the two countries. Particularly, as semiconductors have been regarded as one of the sensitive items in the trade relations between the two countries, China's decision is seen as a signal to accelerate the phase transition of trade negotiations.
However, the memory chip sector was excluded from this tariff withdrawal, and it is known that the Chinese authorities are continuing a separate review on this matter. Currently, both the United States and China are preparing for full-fledged tariff negotiations, drawing attention to whether additional tariff easing measures will emerge.
