According to the University of Michigan's consumer confidence index survey, the 1-year expected inflation rate for U.S. consumers in April was 6.5%. This is the highest level since January 1980.

This result shows that consumers' anxiety about rising prices in the U.S. has increased sharply. Recently, with the Trump administration's tariff policy and global supply chain instability acting in combination, there is growing concern in the market that inflationary pressure could last longer than expected.

Experts analyze that since consumers' inflation expectations can affect the actual inflation rate, it will act as an important variable in the Federal Reserve (Fed)'s future monetary policy decisions.
