Vitalik Buterin "Within 5 years Ethereum will become as simple as Bitcoin"

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, revealed his vision to reduce Ethereum's complexity and implement simplicity at the level of Bitcoin. He recently stated through his blog, “Ethereum will have a structure as concise as Bitcoin's within five years, and the core consensus code will become as simple as Bitcoin's.”

He particularly admitted, “The greatest strength of Bitcoin lies in its simplicity,” and “Ethereum has also pursued this but often failed.” However, he expressed confidence that simplification can be achieved through major reorganization in areas such as consensus layer, execution layer, virtual machine transition strategies, and shared protocol components within the next five years.

Buterin emphasized that the goal of simplification is not just in simplifying the code. He explained, “Simplification, like decentralization, is a strategy for resilience,” and reducing the complexity of the network is an essential factor for securing system stability and scalability in the long term.

This remark is interpreted as targeting the complexity issues raised during the recent scalability and technical upgrade processes of Ethereum. Currently, Ethereum is evaluated as 'simple Bitcoin, complex Ethereum,' and it has been pointed out that the introduction of various functions and layered structures has increased the entry barriers for users and developers.

Buterin's plan suggests that structural reorganization will become an important topic in Ethereum's roadmap moving forward.
