President Donald Trump of the United States announced plans to notify each country of new tariff rates within the next 2-3 weeks. On the 16th (local time) at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Business Roundtable, President Trump announced that "Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will send letters to each country to inform them of how much they owe."

President Trump said, "150 countries want negotiations, but meeting all countries is impossible" and mentioned that letters will only be sent to some countries. However, he avoided specifying which countries would be targeted.

Regarding mutual tariffs, President Trump warned late last month that "if negotiations do not progress, the United States will independently determine new tariff rates." He emphasized that "we will be very fair" highlighting that the U.S. will proceed with tariff adjustments fairly.

Earlier last month, the Trump administration announced plans to impose mutual tariffs of over 10% on all countries, with a 90-day grace period for the 'worst violators'.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration recently concluded negotiations with the United Kingdom and is in negotiations with major trading partners such as Korea, Japan, and India. In particular, an agreement to reduce mutual tariffs by 115 percentage points with China was reached as part of easing trade conflicts. President Trump explained that "negotiations with China continue to take concrete form."

This announcement once again reaffirms the Trump administration's intention to further concretize U.S. trade policy and pursue a strong tariff policy against countries without mutual agreements.
