Bitcoin has risen again as the asset with the highest proportion in investors' portfolios. In particular, the institutional changes in the United States and the introduction of Bitcoin Spot ETF are promoting institutional Bitcoin purchases, showing a distinct change in holding patterns between individuals and institutions.

On June 24 (local time), Cointelegraph reported that Bitcoin's share in the portfolio recorded 30.95% as of May, ranking first among cryptocurrency asset classes. This is an increase of 5.5% points compared to 25.4% in November 2024.

Institutional investors are leading the upward trend. As of June 5, the number of listed companies holding Bitcoin nearly doubled from 124 to 244. It is estimated that they hold a total of 3.45 million Bitcoins, of which 834,000 are directly accounted for in the financial statements of listed companies, and more than 1.39 million are indirectly held through Spot ETFs.

The gap in proportion with Ethereum has also widened. The Ethereum holding ratio compared to Bitcoin fell to 0.15 as of the end of April 2025, but recovered to 0.27 in May. This means that investors hold 4 dollars worth of Bitcoin for every 1 dollar worth of Ethereum.

On the other hand, the movements of individual investors are different. The share of individual Bitcoin holdings has decreased by 37% since November 2024, currently remaining at 11.6%. This is less than half of the institutional investor share, suggesting that many individual investors have diversified their portfolios with altcoins such as XRP or stablecoins. Indeed, the share of XRP increased from 1.29% in November 2024 to 2.42% in May 2025, nearly doubling.

Meanwhile, Solana fell from 2.72% to 1.76% during the same period. It is interpreted that the institutional funds moved from Solana to XRP, following the analysis that the possibility of Spot ETF approval for XRP is higher than Solana.

Thus, the expansion of Bitcoin demand centered on institutional investors and the spread of ETFs are reorganizing the market structure, and the asset allocation strategy is also facing a significant turning point.
