United States Secretary Of Treasury Scott Besant announced that the selection process for the successor to Jerome Powell, Chairman Of The Federal Reserve (Fed), will soon commence as his term comes to an end. He indicated that “the selection of the successor to Chairman Powell will begin within the coming weeks or months,” suggesting that preparations for the next chairman's selection will be in full swing.

Although Chairman Powell's term lasts until February 2026, the timing of successor selection is significant considering the continuity of financial markets and monetary policy. Particularly, as President Donald Trump has shown a strong stance regarding interest rate policy and the independence of the Fed, this appointment could significantly impact future interest rates and market stability, analysts say.
