Woori Card, 'WCKRW·WCWON' and other stablecoin trademark applications… Third among card companies
Woori Card has greatly applied for stablecoin-related trademarks, intensifying its entry into the digital asset market. According to Digital Asset, Woori Card applied for stablecoin-related trademarks such as 'WCKRW', 'WCWON', and 'WONWC' to the Patent Office on July 10.
According to Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS), this trademark application includes downloadable software used for stablecoins as designated goods, marking the third case among card companies and the second among Woori Financial Group affiliates.
Although Woori Card has not disclosed specific business plans, it is interpreted as preparing to expand into digital payment systems or blockchain-based financial services in line with the group's digital asset strategy.
The domestic card companies that have applied for stablecoin trademarks so far include Shinhan Card and Hana Card, and Woori Card's entry this time shows the trend of more intensive digital asset experiments by traditional financial companies.
In the financial sector, this movement is also being noted for its potential connection to the future expansion of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and private stablecoin's practical use.
