It has been reported that President Donald Trump recently directly asked Republican lawmakers about the potential dismissal of Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve (Fed).

On the 15th (local time), CBS reported, citing multiple Republican lawmakers, that President Trump hinted at the possibility of dismissing Chair Powell. According to the lawmakers, Trump posed a question in the context of “Shouldn't Powell be dismissed?” and this was interpreted as a signal that could lead to actual dismissal actions.

Previously, President Trump had repeatedly criticized Chair Powell concerning the Fed's interest rate policy, stating several times that “he should resign immediately.” As the November presidential election approaches, it is expected that the debate over the Fed's independence and monetary policy stance will intensify.
