Paul Atkins, who has shown a favorable inclination towards the cryptocurrency industry, has been officially confirmed as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

According to Watcher.Guru on the 9th (local time), Atkins took office as chairman of the SEC as of today, and this is being interpreted as a signal heralding significant changes in the regulatory direction of the U.S. digital asset market.

Atkins stated at last month's Senate Banking Committee confirmation hearing that “reorganizing the digital asset regulatory framework is a top priority,” and expressed the need to create clear and balanced policies rather than overly restrictive regulations. He also emphasized, “A regulatory framework is needed that can both protect investors and foster innovation.”

His inauguration is in line with the recent cryptocurrency-friendly stance of the Trump administration. Former chairman Gary Gensler, who was appointed during the Biden administration, had consistently clashed with the industry due to his strict regulatory stance.

The market expects that under the leadership of Paul Atkins, the SEC will prepare a clearer and more predictable regulatory framework on major issues such as spot ETFs, stablecoins, and DeFi (Decentralized Finance). There is also a forecast of potential changes in the flow of institutional funds into the cryptocurrency market, which had recently been shrinking.
