United States President Donald Trump reiterated his position to soon impose new tariffs on imported Semiconductors. The tariff rate is expected to be announced this week, and he hinted that exceptions or flexible measures may be possible for some companies.
President Trump, after spending the weekend, spoke with reporters on board Air Force One en route from Florida to Washington, D.C. on the 13th (local time), stating “We will disclose the tariff rate on Semiconductors this week and will soon move into actual implementation.” He also mentioned the possibility of imposing tariffs on electronic products like iPhones, adding, “There will be an announcement soon,” but also stated, “Some flexibility is needed.”
Furthermore, President Trump stated, “We may allow exceptions for some companies concerning Semiconductor tariffs” and mentioned regarding the implementation details, “It is not yet clear.”
This statement follows President Trump’s earlier announcement through social media service (SNS) that “Semiconductors and electronic products have not been excluded from tariffs but merely moved to another category.” In that message, he emphasized that the policy on tariff imposition remains unchanged.
As the Trump administration has announced the intention to introduce individual tariffs on key electronic components, including Semiconductors, market attention is focused on the specific tariff rates and scope that will be announced in the future.
