The listed company Metaplanet in Japan is accelerating its holding strategy by making large-scale additional purchases of Bitcoin.
According to the blockchain specialized media Coinpost, Metaplanet has recently secured a total of 319 BTC. The average purchase price is about 11,845,786 yen per 1BTC (approximately 118 million KRW), with the amount of money spent on this purchase reaching 3,779 million yen (about 37.7 billion KRW). This has increased Metaplanet's Bitcoin holdings to a cumulative 4,525 BTC, with the total acquisition amount recording about 58,145 million yen (approximately 580 billion KRW).
Through the '2025-2026 Bitcoin Plan' announced in January, Metaplanet proposed to hold 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and a total of 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026. To achieve this, the company is concurrently implementing various financial strategies, such as issuing new stock warrants for the EVO fund and early redemption of zero-coupon bonds.
Meanwhile, Metaplanet also conducted a stock split dividing 1 share into 10 as of the 31st of last month. This decision was made following a sharp rise in stock prices after merging 10 shares into 1 in August last year, aiming to lower the investment unit amount, increase liquidity, and attract more investors.
The company is comprehensively introducing Bitcoin into its corporate strategy as part of its asset portfolio conversion, and this move is being noted as a rare 'Bitcoin-based asset management case' in Japan.
