Ethereum Foundation, Focus on Improving User Experience and Scalability
The Ethereum Foundation has announced that it will undertake an internal reorganization and prioritize improving network scalability and user experience. This is interpreted as a response to recent community criticisms and a structural transition for the future of Ethereum.
Tomasz Stanczak, Co-director, stated in a statement released on the 21st (local time), "The core of this change is to create conditions that allow Vitalik Buterin to focus on research and experiments, leaving management tasks." He evaluated that Buterin's vision has continually had a significant impact on the development of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Buterin recently expressed his intention to improve the limitations of the Ethereum network through various proposals. On April 11, he presented a roadmap to enhance transaction privacy, and on the 20th, proposed an improvement plan for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) contract language to increase execution efficiency. Stanczak explained that these proposals are intended to stimulate progress in various research areas rather than directly induce changes.
Going forward, the Ethereum Foundation plans to focus on Layer 1 scalability through protocol upgrades, support for Layer 2 solutions, and improvements in interoperability and user experience. Next-generation upgrades, known as ‘Pektra’, ‘Pusaka’, and ‘Glamsterdam’, are expected to be key platforms for achieving these goals.
The foundation also announced plans to actively adopt the latest technologies from the execution layer and the consensus layer to advance technical challenges expected to take more than three years. The goal is to achieve substantial results within 1 to 2 years.
Stanczak emphasized that "Researchers and the community should equally enjoy opportunities for development," clearly stating that the foundation's focus is on creating a user-centric network environment.
Following the announcement, community reactions were mixed. Many positively evaluated the Ethereum Foundation's willingness to change, welcoming the "healthy communication between leaders and the community." On the other hand, some pointed out a lack of specificity and called for clearer plans, such as expanding education, strengthening the developer ecosystem, and accelerating the development of real-use applications.
Attention is growing on whether the changes announced by the Ethereum Foundation can lead to actual technological advances and the foundation's future steps.
