Candidate For Deputy Prime Minister Of Economy And Minister Of Strategy And Finance Koo Yoon-cheol announced his vision to pursue an “Economic great innovation for true growth” and manage “The Republic of Korea like a corporation.” At the press conference held at the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 29th, he emphasized creating a structure where the people are the ‘real shareholders’ and public officials as ‘good managers’ are responsible for the economy.

Candidate Koo diagnosed that the current South Korean economy is facing complex crises such as global tariff war, technology hegemony competition, low growth, and polarization, and expressed his immense sense of responsibility as the first economic commander of the new government.

He presented the future policy framework as ▲ Restoration of people’s livelihood economy ▲ Responses to external uncertainties ▲ Economic innovation as the three main pillars. Regarding economic innovation, he stated, “Even in Korea, wrong investments will fail,” and added, “Like a company that considers costs and revenues, it must maximize investment efficiency and secure future food sources to be sustainable.”

In terms of securing new growth engines, he stated, “We will prepare the national future through intensive investment in new industries such as AI” and “Create a structure where all the people share growth opportunities and results.” He presented a vision to build an “Economic system where national happiness and national development circulate positively.”

As a plan for the recovery of people’s livelihood, he promised to alleviate the burden of living expenses due to high prices, revitalize the local economy, and strengthen disaster response to heatwaves and heavy rains. In addition, he emphasized responding proactively to energy, logistics, and export shocks caused by geopolitical risks, saying, “We will thoroughly prepare for U.S. tariff negotiations with relevant ministries and provide precise support to affected industries.”

This statement by Candidate Koo contains the philosophy of applying business management mindset to overall national operation and is interpreted as showing a strong will for R&D, private-led growth, and policy efficiency improvement.
